Love what you do.
Without a doubt, the single most important thing that my mom taught me, she never told me anything about. Think about that for a second. I can’t remember a single time she sat me down and had a discussion about it.
For a couple of years, my mom was working crazy hours. She had me full time, and my younger brother every other week. At the same time, she was working something in the regions of 80 hour weeks. She was constantly on call, and was on the phone a lot.
It made me really angry at times, as she was on the phone when we were at the mall, in the car, out doing something. It made me stressed and annoyed most of the time.
Looking back, I realise that she really loved what she was doing. She was putting her whole being in to making that operation work. And she loved almost every minute of it.
The reason to why I know that is because I saw it. I saw how fulfilling it was to her, and I’ve talked to her about that job now. I saw how happy she was when things went well, and I saw how much she cared to make things go well even when they didn’t.
As a parent, make sure to love what you do. Make sure to show that to your kids. It’ll stick with them for their whole life.
