Grand ideas

We need big thoughts being thought. And we need them quickly.

There’s a scene in Inception where the group is attacked by a defence system in a dream. One of the members of the team picks up an automatic rifle and starts shooting, not making much progress. One of the other group members ironically says “You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.” and fires off a rocket.

The irony in the clip is simple, because they’re limited by their thoughts, even in their dreams.

The kind of thinking shown, the expansive and quite grand, isn’t shown a lot in our real world either.

Kanye West said in in an interview with Letterman about his grandchildren:

“I actually have a dream that my grandchildren can float in the air. Because it’s so unprogrammed and so pure. It’s like, ‘Look, granddad, I can actually float!’”

That’s a grand idea if there ever was one.
