Art of hosting isn’t a set of tools.
Art of hosting isn’t about the methods. At least not only the methods. It’s about a community, a practice. And more importantly, it’s about the experience.
We don’t really have a way of measuring experience, other than in time. Time spent in doing something is equal to that time having been converted to knowledge that you can use. That’s not completely true. You can get a lot of knowledge over time, without gaining any competence.
Competence is he ability to turn knowledge to practice. It’s pushing the button, at the right time, instead of just reading about the button. It’s the skill of using your knowledge in what we’d usually call our shared experience room, the physical world.
See, experience is built equally from time and engagement. The same experience can be built of an insight gained in a couple of minutes that takes someone else ten years to achieve. It can be very quick or quite slow.
Experience is work put in plus time. You need patience to pursue experience, and you need speed.
The hard work can come at learning the tools, the words to say. It can come from reading a book or studying. To practice it, you’ll need to put in time. Be patient, and that hard work will turn in to experience.
